Purchasing Purchasing Department Department: Fill & Download for Free

A few years ago we hired a person to work in our purchasing department. At the 60-day mark I was asked to do a review. Instead of filling out a rather lengthy review I scrawled across the form they should terminate her. The reason is she did not have the ability to look at data and critically analyze that data and make a correct decision. At day 60 she was still trying to grasp things from day 1. Several people had worked with her, but it was obvious the light bulb just wasn’t coming on. Five years later, management finally came to the same conclusion.

Actually my second boss. He was a sprightly 72 tear old Managing Director of a retail credit company. He was unable to walk slowly and it was rumoured his employment interview technique was to meet an applicant at reception, and if they were still with him when he reached his office at the far end of a sprawling warehouse, they got the job.As well as MD he also ran the purchasing department consisting of some dozen buyers with a rod of iron.He gave me two pieces of very valuable advice, which stayed with me for the rest of my working life.He always treated an asking price as a work of fiction, and would tell me ‘Never pay full price for anything’And my favourite, when making difficult decisions.‘Scratch don’t tear’

I worked in a popular five star in Delhi which has one of the fanciest night clubs of the town. One of the biggest factor for leaving my job was the hygiene factor.I have seen extremely dirty things in the attached kitchen of the club.1. Servers eat directly from the food which is kept prepared for the guest. I have seen one guy directly eating from the gulab jamun bowl with his unwashed hands. The same food was served to the guests.2. The fruits and vegetables brought for cooking was very stale. The quality was so bad that we would not buy it even it was on sale.3. Dirty rain water used to sweep into the kitchen spreading germs and grime every year.4. Food which was sold as organic was brought from local market by the purchase department.5. Milk based products always tasted bad due to low quality milk used for cooking.6. Trans fat and high quantity of salt and sugar was used to improve the taste of the food.7. It was openly said by the staff that the management bribes the MCD of Delhi and the fire department for renewing the license to run hotel.8. Foreigners were charged more than 30 dollars per person for this unhygienic food.9. If you are a vegetarian then remember that most of the hotels use the same utensils, service station and staff for non vegetarian food also.All these reasons excluding the last one was used for staff food also which was horrible in taste. Plus there were another issues which made to leave this badly managed hotel.
