Would you hold my hand while we cross the bridge?”Of course, my sympathetic child immediately reached up and took hold of her “nervous” aunt’s hand and they crossed the bridge together.Without saying a word, my daughter grabbed hold of her great-aunt’s hand on the return trip as well.My aunt applied wisdom born of experience in handling this situation.

No longer could people with wheelchairs use a skip line, and they modified the rules, as this announcement explains. I bolded the parts where Disney acknowledges the jerk factor:Disney Parks is modifying the current Guest Assistance Card program, which provides access to attractions for guests with disabilities, so it can continue to serve the guests who truly need it. The new program is designed to provide the special experience guests have come to expect from Disney. It will also help control abuse that was, unfortunately, widespread and growing at an alarming rate.Now, Disney guests still don’t have to prove disabilities, because it’s illegal to require that in the U.S. But it’s not illegal to require them to go through more hoops, including being encouraged to provide “as much information about the disability as possible.”They say it’s so park staff can best serve their needs, but I’m sure it’s also to discourage the casual liars who may not be shameless enough to try and fool the folks in charge, as opposed to the people whose main job is loading and unloading the rides.
