It does not care one whit what form of governance you feel is best.Perhaps this question stems from a lack of understanding of what masks do to offer protection and what the virus does and can do when it goes unchecked.While wearing a mask does offer you some protection, its greatest value is in protecting people around you. The greatest path for spreading COVID-19 is through droplets expelled by breathing, coughing, sneezing, even speaking. Those droplets can get past most masks. N95 masks can protect you much more fully, but they are hard to come by and should be left for use by medical professionals. But even a cloth mask will dramatically reduce the spread of COVID-19 if worn by an infected person.What if you don’t feel sick? The majority of people who are infected are asymptomatic. That is, they do not feel sick. The virus may never do them any permanent damage, but they still carry it and can pass it on to others. Simply because you do not feel sick does not mean you don’t need a mask. Wear one, please.If most people are asymptomatic, why should I worry? Well, to start with, not everyone is asymptomatic and this virus kills, more than 1,000,000 people around the world already and more than 100,000 in the US alone so far. That is a pretty big reason. Additionally, the large number of people who have become symptomatically ill from COVID-19 has overwhelmed the medical system in the US, causing other illnesses to go untreated. Personally, I have a brother-in-law who was in the middle of cancer treatment. It was going well, but he had to halt the process as the next step was going to be to wipe out his immune system and then attempt to restart it with his own stem cells. This would have put him at serious risk with the presence of COVID-19 being so prevalent. Now he has to wait and hope that the progress made already does not reverse.So, I have to ask again, what possible political belief is there for encouraging the crippling of our medical system and for accelerating the spread of a deadly virus with no vaccine yet available? Does your political party believe that human life has no value and that extending the crippling of our economy is a good thing? If so, maybe it is your political party that needs to die instead.
