Because as an afterthought the EU decided on the CFP which meant all fishing waters In the EU could be fished by any nation in the EU. This is unlike any Free Trade Deal in the World. Norway and UK has most of the fishing waters. Norway decided not to join the EU due to this and the UK sold its fishing industry out. Now the Spanish, French and Dutch are used to fishing in UK waters and have industry dependent on it. The EU is trying to protect its nation states industries. Understandable, but it’s still unlike any trade deal anywhere in the World and wholly unreasonable to demand the UK surrender its territorial waters as part of a future trade deal.The EU nations can have access. The UK will control that access.

Warning: I definitely won’t talk about the most epic fails. I am also going to talk about the militaries of TWO countries I am related to.Israel.Unfortunately, it seems that turning various vehicles over is some kind of our national sport. But — HUMVEES?When the IDF got its first HMMWVs, everyone was under impression that you just can't turn over this thing, with all its crazy width.The first humvee we turned over was a “legitimate” case of entering some crazy side slope.However, the second one was turned over on a perfectly horizontal and flat terrain. The genius that was driving it argued with a bunch of other geniuses that this was possible, and volunteered to prove his point. Well, he did prove it.How? Well, fools and nutcases can be pretty ingenious. Full gas at reverse gear, then hitting the brakes hard while breaking the steering wheel hard.Idiot.Now, how did we turn over the THIRD humvee? Another genius, who just happened to be the awed observer of the bold “experiment” described above, told the story to HIS friends. They didn't believe him. So that second genius took this lack of faith as a personal insult and volunteered to prove his point. He did.As someone said, the Jews hate mediocrity. When a Jew is smart, he is super-smart… but when he is dumb… Oh boy.The Soviet Union.Definitely not the funniest and not the most epic fail, but I still like it. And it kind of connects nicely to the previous story.I also can’t give you a certified source - it’s one of the stories that “everybody knows”…A certain Lt.-Colonel of the Soviet mechanized infantry, who happened to serve in some god-forsaken place in the middle of nowhere, gets the happy news: his wife has brought a baby. The happy father decides to celebrate — in the special Soviet Army style. He takes a few of his fellow officers, a couple of crates of vodka, a couple of crates of canned meat and other military rations stuff, a crate of explosives, a BTR armored personnel carrier, and they go fishing - to the nice lake in the middle of Syberian taiga, or Ural forests, or something like that (the storytellers disagree on the exact location).As you surely understand, “fishing” is the code name for drinking a lot and generally having a good time in a good company. Well, there was some actual fishing involved - if you consider throwing explosives in the water fishing.After quite a few bottles, some genius is striken by an idea: the fishing in the middle of the lake is supposed to be more productive… and more interesting! Now, the BTR is supposed to be amphibious - so comrades officers hop onboard and enter the lake.Of course, no one remembers to actually prepare the BTR to in-water activities - which would have included closing all kinds of holes and hatches. Naturally, the BTR sinks. Oops!Luckily, no one drowns with it, but now the APC has to be salvaged. No problem - the not-entirely-happy-now infantry Colonel and one of his friends, the Air Force Major, call for a military helicopter, grab a crate of vodka and fly to visit another Lt.-Colonel. The vodka changes hands, and the brave officers return with a salvage team. The soldiers put their SCUBA gear on, enter the water… After a few minutes one of the divers reappears:“What is the serial number of the BTR you want to salvage?”“Say WHAT?”“Comrade Colonel, there are FOUR sunken BTRs in this lake!”

I don’t agree that it goes both ways. It only goes one way. “Cherry picking” has never been a Brexit proposition, only an EU slur. Brexit is about leaving the EU. It was only ever about that. Never about anything else. That was clear from the start.Now, I would argue that Theresa May didn’t help, because she DID attempt a cherry picking Brexit. She actually succeeded in negotiating one. But in so doing, she went off piste vs Brexit’s meaning and purpose and consequently, her deal was rejected by Brexiteers.The folly of appointing a Remainer to implement Brexit, perhaps? For goodness sake, if you’re going to appoint someone to take charge of something, at least make sure they understand it.The position since the Johnson government came to power, has changed. The UK is looking for a clean break. None of the benefits of membership. All of the benefits of non-membership. The EU on the other hand, has signalled its intention to make a clean break as difficult as possible.It’s a losing battle; one it cannot win. It’s a bit like a jilted partner, unreconciled to the idea that their ex really does want to leave and leave completely, using things the children, money and so on, to blackmail them into keeping at least some connection.The EU is wedded to the idea that it might somehow persuade the UK to keep to its laws and remain part of its jurisdiction (including over fishing waters) post departure. But it’s having a laugh. There’s no way it can possibly win that argument.
