PDF Editor FAQ

Which form do I need to file to sue someone attempting to pay me back with fake money? It was confiscated by the sheriff and nothing happened afterwards. She is currently making payments but I want her to go to jail for the counterfeit money.

If you want to sue someone for failure to pay a debt, you need to sue that person in civil court. The amount involved typically determines which court is appropriate in your particular jurisdiction. You typically have to file a complaint describing how you were wronged and your causes of action, along with a cover sheet for the court (usually available on its website) describing the case, such as “nonpayment of debt.” So the bottom line is that if you want to bring a suit, you should visit the website of your local court and follow instructions that are typically made available to individual litigants. Your bringing a civil suit and winning entitles you to be paid damages (and claiming a tort, such as fraud, could entitle you to damages beyond the debt), but would not result in anyone being jailed.Second, in the US, the Secret Service handles issues with counterfeit money. So if you want to report the use of counterfeit money, that would be the most appropriate place to go to. However, your debtor getting in trouble with the law may be at odds with your goal of being repaid in a timely manner.

Is paternity a constitutional right in the U.S.?

The hypothetical in the comment to the question is:Mother enters name of man who is not the father on new baby’s birth certificate. Purported father dies. Mother dies. Mother’s mother — baby’s grandma — takes custody. Real father, in prison, learns about baby. Baby grows up.Now baby is a teenager. Real father’s sentence is served. Grandma, who has a rap sheet of her own, bans real father’s visitation. Refuses DNA testSocial services tells him to wait until Baby is 18 and emancipated.Legal options? 42 USC 1983? Property deprivation w/o due process? Is paternity a property interest in any state? What real father needs to do here is to file an action for custody and assert paternity and he will be entitled to genetic testing and a paternity trial. There’s no “state action” to implicate § 1983. In fact, there’s no “due process” issue either, nor is a child “property”; rather the relationship of parent and child is a legal one, albeit it’s presumed when there is a biological relation. The advice of DSS to wait is probably legally incorrect but unless there is a dependency issue they are not taking any official action to complain about. There’s not likely to be any civil action against Grandma, either, for not allowing custody, unless she did something that amounted to abuse of process in order to achieve that end. The remedy is a custody action. The United States Supreme Court, an a case called Troxel v. Granville, 530 U.S. 57 (2000) played with the idea of what constitutional rights parents have vis-à-vis grandparents and others, and there was a general consensus that the constitutional right to raise one’s own children—this goes back to cases like Meyer v. State of Nebraska, 262 U.S. 390 (1925), which held that parents have the right to home-school—also provides parents some degree of legal preference in a third-party custody case, but in a fractured opinion did not announce a binding rule on third-party custody, much less address paternity claims.A claim to paternity probably is a constitutional right. “We have recognized on numerous occasions that the relationship between parent and child is constitutionally protected.” Quilloin v. Walcott, 434 U.S. 246, 255 (1978).It’s not necessary to get into such constitutional niceties in this case, however, when there is nothing to suggest that an ordinary determination-of-paternity proceeding is not available, and the more general blanket right to due process and an opportunity to be heard, which is so fundamental it rarely needs to be even argued, would cover the situation. It goes without saying that advice from an attorney admitted to the appropriate jurisdiction as to process and procedure would be highly desirable. State law varies on the substance of third-party custody, and there could be extra procedural steps needed to obtain the opening of paternity.

What is something that seems to make sense to everybody else but you?

What is something that seems to make sense to everyone but me? Fitted sheets. Or as I like to call them, the Devil's Deviant Design to Bring Down Western Civilization. On the face of it, fitted sheets are the bomb. They're the best thing to come down the pike since sliced bread and zippers. But, there's a dark and seamy underside to their personalities. If I could stand it, I'd never change my sheets.I'd wait until that bottom sheet was dirty enough to stand up, walk, get a job, smoke, and quote Kafka, before I'd change it.Then, I'd buy a new set, and let the two Fitted Sheets fight it out for control of Bedlandia. Because, let's face it, by that time the old one would BE me, by virtue of its DNA collection.Unfortunately, I can't carry out this plan of action. It's disgusting, and I can't afford to keep buying new sheets.I'll never forget the day, ten years ago, my new mattress was delivered. It wasn't by C-section, so no need to feel sorry for the delivery guys. It was delivered by truck. It was a brand new, king size mattress from Banner. Made in the USA, and guaranteed to be comfortable.I had stayed home from work, because I was sick. I had a fever, aches and pains, and felt like death warmed over. My old bed was full of lumps, and it took pleasure in making me feel worse.I'd finally paid off the new mattress, and here it was!It glided into my room, all seductive like, and lay down gracefully, to let me put new sheets on it. I had a brand new set, but was barely able to stand up to put them on. I crawled over my new mattress, dressing it up in clean, cool sheets, so I could blissfully collapse on it.Thus began my recurring journey into madness whenever I try to figure out how the fitted sheet goes.No matter what I do, I get the wrong corner of it tucked around the top corner. I try to fit the bottom corner, and it's too short! So, I pull it apart, and try it another way. After a few false starts, I might get it to fit. Finally, I get all four corners tucked in, but there's a problem. It's just a little too short for the bed, so that the seams are way down the side of the mattress. At this point, I'm searching for a substance that will help me forget that a million years of human female evolution can be bested by three yards of fabric, and I'm covered in sweat, so the Fitted Sheet will remain this way until the next wash day, pulling down off the mattress, and laughing uproariously as I try to make it lie flat. Not even the black pen scribble I put in the right top corner is a guarantee that I'll put the sheet on correctly. Half the time, even if I can find the damn black mark, and get it situated where it's supposed to be, the sheet is still not on right. The mattress isn't a perfect square, is why. It looks square, but it's longer than it is wide. Or, vice versa. I don't know. Maybe I'm geometrically challenged.I only have the ONE pair of sheets, too. Why?Because I don't even want to get into the folding hell of fitted sheets.

I have had CocoDoc PDF Element for several months. It has never worked. I foolishly carried on trying to make it work past the 30 day cancellation period and now CocoDoc will not consider a refund. I have done everything CocoDoc has suggested, except grant them access to my computer, to get the software to work, but in spite of buying the subscription it never recognises me as a licence holder and every time I try to open or save a pdf document it tells me I am not recognised and must buy a subscription. Don't waste your money.
