Let’s say 600 kids get in here and for great reason. And it’s even higher for Princeton which loves this type and I respect them immensely for this initiative. Berkeley as one might expect and UC Davis, lead the country in this category too (non- ivys). A 1560 is roughly the average SAT score for their 75th percentile (true story and for Harvard its higher at about a 1570 or 1580 but what’s 10 points-I can’t believe I forgot that exact fun stat).So even a few Bs on your transcripts as you asked are never the worry… if it’s only a few b’s overall… except at Cornell which likes All As and leadership or heavy activities and outgoing people you’ll have a chance ….the worry is for the remaining 4800 spots left that you are competing against and having beat out 6 high schools‘ very top student for that one spot meaning the odds are tough to say the least. You have to be the most unique scholar in your entire league to get an admit and be so much more unique than any kid at these schools. Are you? If so apply and to all of them and you’ll likely get a chance for admission. The kids who get in know they should get in and deserve it is my two cents or it is sense. Ok maybe 3.Now for the best news… schools like Duke, Northwestern, Notre Dame feast on these same kids who don’t get an ivy admit… if they have close to all As and 1550 SAT and with great activities just not world class like the ivys but amazing all around kids… and these are truly special schools as well.Another secret I have found that really works is to also apply so some great outside the top 50 as well. My strategy is as follows and it has worked wonders for several Kids I mentor since they have many wonderful options because of these limited spots: A)Apply to five schools in the top 20 or a few more if you have national caliber activies, test scores and grades. B) Then, apply to 5 schools ranked 50–125 and some of these will offer scholarships likely lower down including U Alabama, U Oklahoma , ASU U Arizona (check their scholarships that list or calculate the estimated amount) and C) choose 5 schools you really admire in state is where you want to attend and even if not ranked. I want kids to feel accepted and good even with many expected rejections which happens to everyone but the worse situation I have found which is depression for kids is to apply to 15/15 top 25 schools and not get into one and it happens more than you know…please as a favor don’t be that kid since it will affect you for a long time and probably remove most of your motivation for higher education even though you are still brilliant.Remember, the ivys are so challenging to get into due to limited supply that you will sincerely always want to demand and command a chance for admission by giving yourself a great chance at each of these great schools. One of the kids I mentor had all As, captain of his top 50 nationally ranked academic Decathalon team, winner of about 30 awards including regional championships, impressive submissions in computer science to Github, a 35 ACT and he was even a special admit kid- the first time college attendee in his family who will graduate and even he was rejected by Harvey Mudd, USC and last night UCLA waitlisted him due to having just 6300 spots for 109,000 applicants worldwide. His best admit so far was 37 ranked UC San Diego, UC Davis and Irvine (top 40) and 22 ranked Berkeley and we are expecting the ivys to say no as well but for maybe Cornell. UCLA was a real shocker to me being in state but it’s that challenging to get in. Another kid with a 4.17 Gpa/4.6 (including AP classes) and a 35 ACT got waitlisted at UC Davis ranked 39 and UC Santa Barbara 37 and was rejected by MIT, UCLA, UC Irvine because they are getting so many close to all A students who have unbelievable scores and activities.Good luck and keep up the great grades ok

(From my knowledge, Florida State, Cornell, Oregon State, and UC Davis have some options for students interested in marine vet med.)Take your GRE(which is like the MCAT for vet school), some schools accept the MCAT as well so do your research prior.Apply to vet school and once you get in join clubs, programs, and internships that focus on marine mammal care and medicine.After graduating vet school you have two options, 1) get job experience working at a veterinary hospital or clinic with small animals(dog/cat/etc.) and after a few years of experience, apply to any Veterinarian jobs openings at any Marine life facility that you want to work at(aquariums, marine parks, research and conservation institutes, zoos, etc.) 2) your second option would be to keep studying right after graduating in order to specialize in Marine mammal medicine and after that, try finding a job(this route is harder so try to get as much job experience as possible.)
